Choosing healthy snacks rather than a bag of candy or a piece of cake will not only benefit your mood and energy, but also your weight, as an unstable blood sugar results in many adverse reactions in the body.

When you eat, the carbohydrates in the food are converted into sugar – also called glucose. Insulin is released from the pancreas to make sure the glucose is delivered to your cells, where it is burned and converted into energy. When you consume the fast carbohydrates that are typically found in sweet cases, a large and sudden increase in your blood sugar occurs. The pancreas therefore comes into overtime and produces insulin in a hurry to transport the sugar out to the cells and thus stabilize the blood sugar again. But the faster the sugar is burned off, the faster the blood sugar will fall again and the body will scream for even more sugar. It can quickly become an evil circle that will not benefit you, your body or your weight. Namely, an unstable and highly fluctuating blood sugar can cause various symptoms such as restlessness, fatigue, headache, sugar/caffeine cravings, irritability, palpitations, depression, outbursts of anger and poor memory.

When you focus on the healthy choices and choose healthy snacks rather than the less healthy, you stabilize your blood sugar and thus your energy.
